  • Tests & Quizzes:  Demonstrating knowledge in the different areas of fitness.
  • Responsibility:  This includes dressing, bringing class materials/notebook, being on-time, on-task, active, positive & productive.

ABSENCES  AND  MAKE UPS

Absences:

§           Being that PE is a participatory class, it is essential that students attend class regularly.

§           PE hours are state mandated and students must accumulate regular PE hours – therefore missed classes must be made up to receive PE credit.

§           Absences will affect a student’s grade if they are not made up.

§           It is important that each student checks with his/her teacher after returning from any absence to see exactly what work he/she missed.

Make Ups:

§           Two make up sessions are usually required for each absence (because of the block schedule), however it is the responsibility of the student to see his/her teacher when they return from any absence to see exactly what he/she missed.

§           All make ups must be completed by the end of each grading period for credit.

§           When attending PE make-ups students should be on the blacktop in their PE clothes by the time make ups begin.

§           Students will not be admitted to make-ups if they are tardy.

§           Students must bring with them a MAKE UP FORM when attending PE make ups (which needs to be filled out ahead of time).

§           Make ups will be held rain or shine.

MAKE UP SCHEDULE

§           The Current PE Make Up Schedule is also posted in each of the locker rooms at school.

§           Make Up Times are subject to change.

PE  CLOTHES

§           All students are required to dress everyday in their own clothing.

§           The PE uniform is designed to improve safety, performance, hygiene, and comfort.

§           Some students may wish to purchase a second set of PE clothes to keep in their PE locker as back-ups.

§           PE clothes will be sold at the beginning of the year orientations and throughout the school year in both locker rooms.

§           The Physical Education uniform consists of the following:

(1)    PJHS P.E. SHIRT (must be tucked in): $10.00

(2)    PURPLE PE SHORTS:  $10.00

(3)    ATHLETIC SHOES: Must be tight fitting and tied tightly!  This is for safety and to maximize performance and participation.  (Vans, Converse, and other “Skater type” or slip-on shoes do not have the support needed to maximize performance and prevent injuries!

(4)    SWEATS are optional but if worn must be plain grey OR purchased from PJHS and worn OVER your PE shirt and shorts.  Sweats are recommended for students during the winter season and/or students with morning PE classes.  Sweats are $15.00 for each piece if purchased from PJHS.

(5)    HATS may be worn outside only for sun protection (no beanies or gloves are allowed)

All PE clothing must be labeled clearly as follows:

SMITH, J

§           Use only the name plates to write on (no other extra writing/coloring).

§           For all labeling use your last name and first initial.

DRESSING  POLICY

A Non-Dress (ND) is defined as NOT wearing your own P.E. shirt (tucked in), Purple PE shorts, athletic shoes (tied tightly), and/or the proper sweats (if worn).  Students are NOT to wear their regular clothes under, over, or with their PE clothes.

The consequences for a non-dress (ND) may include the following:

  • “F” grade for the day
  • Loss of activity
  • Referral to office
  • Class suspension

Continued non-dresses will not only affect your grade, but may result in a parent/teacher/administrator conference.

MEDICAL  EXCUSES

All notes should include a student’s restrictions or modifications.

PARENT NOTE:

§           DOES NOT excuse a child from dressing or PE

§           Student will be given modified PE but still participates to the best of their ability.

§           Students who do not participate (or who miss specific assignments) may be required to do make-ups or make up work to receive full credit.

Doctor Note:

§           May excuse the student from dressing and/or limit their physical activity.

§           Student will participate to the best of their ability with modifications as needed and/or be given an alternate assignment.

§           Students who do not participate (or who miss specific assignments) may be required to do make-ups or make up work to receive full credit.
